The 60th Congress of the Colombian Society of Urology was held in Cartagena, a high-profile scientific event that brought together international experts to discuss the most innovative surgical techniques in urology.

Among the protagonists of the meeting was Dr Gabriele Antonini, who brought his Italian experience in the implantation of hydraulic penile prostheses using the infrapubic and scrotal approaches, methods of which he is the sole practitioner in Europe. During the conference sessions, Dr Antonini shared his clinical experience on some of the most complex and innovative topics in reconstructive urological surgery: Radical prostatectomy with simultaneous penile prosthesis implantation: a surgical strategy that allows, in the same operation, to treat prostate cancer and prevent the onset of post-operative erectile dysfunction. Combined penile prosthesis and artificial urinary sphincter implantation: a solution for patients with both severe erectile dysfunction and chronic urinary incontinence, substantially improving their quality of life. Treatment of Peyronie’s disease using the “scratch” technique: a surgical approach that corrects penile curvature and restores satisfactory sexual function.

Hospitality and international exchange Dr Antonini was a guest of outgoing president Milton Salazar, together with colleagues Alejandro Carvajal and Wilmer Rivero, with whom he shared moments of scientific exchange and academic collaboration. Particularly significant was the atmosphere of openness and international dialogue, which made the congress a unique opportunity for mutual growth. A collaboration that looks to the future. For the second consecutive year, Dr Antonini was invited as a speaker in Cartagena, reflecting the international recognition of his work. With the election of the new president of the Colombian Society of Urology, William Quiroga, concrete prospects are opening up for strengthening collaboration between Italy and Colombia in the field of urological research and innovation.
