A day of the highest scientific and surgical level dedicated to penile prosthetic implantology was held in Rome at the Quisisana Clinic. The special guest was Professor Ettore Mearini, Professor of Urology at the University of Perugia, accompanied by Dr Matteo Mearini of Perugia and Dr Edoardo Pozzi of the San Raffaele Hospital in Milan.
During the session, five three-component hydraulic penile prostheses were implanted in patients with highly complex clinical conditions. These included a case of double previous prosthetic infection, patients suffering from Peyronie’s disease, others who had undergone radical prostatectomy for prostate cancer, and cases with severe vascular aetiology.
The teachers and specialists who attended were able to observe at close quarters the extraordinary technical mastery and surgical precision of Dr Gabriele Antonini, now internationally recognised as one of the leading experts in the field of functional penile surgery. The implants were performed using a minimally invasive infrapubic technique, achieving excellent results in both aesthetic and functional terms.
The meeting was not only a highly valuable training opportunity, but also an important step forward in the cultural and scientific dissemination of prosthetic surgery, strengthening national and international collaborations that make Italy increasingly central in this specialist field.
