Straightening of the penis
Penile curvature, or deviation of the penis from its axis, may be congenital, present from birth, or acquired, linked to pathologies that arise during the patient’s lifetime. It may be isolated or associated with other genital malformations, and is a reason to consult a specialist. It often requires delicate andrological surgery, with excellent results from both a cosmetic and functional point of view.
Classification
- Complete curvature of the penis associated with malformations of the urethra (hypospadias, epispadias)
- Congenital curvature of the penis associated with a short urethra
- Pure or primary congenital curvature of the penis
- Acquired curvature of the penis
- Pseudo-recurvatum penienum or false curvature
Cavernous corporoplasty according to Nesbit involves the removal of one or more elliptical pads of cavernous albuginea on the side opposite to the concavity of the curvature to be corrected. The dorsal penile neurovascular bundle is completely isolated. A disadvantage of this technique is the minimal shortening of the penis, which will be greater the more severe the curvature to be corrected. The technique involves meticulous suturing of Buck’s fascia, suturing of the skin at the level of the coronal sulcus and a compression bandage for 2 or 3 days. Sexual activity can be resumed after 40 days. Excellent final aesthetic result, with scars that are almost invisible 2 months after the operation and a perfectly straight penis.
